#NotforSale Human Trafficking Training and Awareness Workshop

Description: Human Trafficking is an ever evolving issue that deeply impacts communities across Canada. It is a clandestine crime that lives and thrives in the dark. It is also currently the fastest growing criminal industry in the world. A community can protect itself from the deep and lasting impacts of human trafficking by bringing this issue into the light and equipping everyone with the tools and resources that they need to do their part in identifying, preventing, and supporting victims of human trafficking. Small communities can be highly susceptible to traffickers because they believe they will escape detection in where there is a lack of attention and awareness on the issue. Join us on May 9th to help shine a light on human trafficking and combat the devastating consequences that accompany this crime. Learn about human trafficking, hear from survivors, listen to best practices for supporting those that are most vulnerable, and what we can do to help. Speakers will provide an incredible opportunity for training and awareness by showcasing the issue of human trafficking from a variety of perspectives including police investigations, social supports, and the incredibly brave journey of survivors getting in and out of ‘The Game’. You will hear about what we need to do to support human trafficking survivors and prevent potential victims. We will also take a look at historical police focus on the issue and victim and offender profiles. Speakers will include 2 inspiring survivor stories from BridgeNorth Women’s Mentorship & Advocacy Service, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canada Border Services Agency, Victims Services Peterborough Northumberland, and retired Toronto Police Inspector James Brown. We aim to give you the tools you need to identify those at risk of victimization from human trafficking and what you can do to help.
